Always Under Construction!!!

There are so many wonderful poets in or from the region. Here are a few more!

Fred Chappell

I couldn't decide which Fred Chappell book to show on my first poetry page, so I didn't include him.  Just read Fred Chappell's poetry! Spring Garden is just one of my favorites.

Lynn Powell

My copy of Lynn Powell's Old and New Testaments is battered, dog-eared, and highlighted.  I have not had the pleasure of reading her newest, Zones of Paradise, published late in 2003 by The University of Akron Press.

R. T. Smith

R. T. Smith had two books published in 2003: Hollow Log Lounge (University of Illinois Press) and Brightwood (LSU Press).   He also serves as the editor of the fine literary magazine, Shenandoah.

Wendell Berry

My copy of Timbered Choir refused to provide a clear scanned copy. I think Wendell would be pleased.  I turn to this book again, and again.  Poet, farmer, activist, Wendell is well-known for his essays, novels, and poetry.  While browsing in a Sacramento bookstore, I struck up a conversation with the owner. Wendell Berry was one of his literary heroes.  He had good taste!

Diane Gilliam Fisher

A bone chilling and heart breaking account of the Mingo County, WV mine wars.  The John Sales movie "Matewan" told the same story.  Diane tells them from the point of view held by the women and children, no less victims than the miners.

Irene McKinney

From the poet Laureate of West Virginina, Vivid Companion is a marvelous journey.  Don't miss it!

Llewellyn McKernan

Llwellyn is another West Virginia poet. Link coming soon.
